great place that messed up our greatest moment

we were celebrating the most important moment of our lives and chose to do it at Tangierino !!!! ONE BIG MISTAKE !!!! My wife had made a reservation for a tented table (just so that we have the best ambience to share something we have longed for for almost 10 years of our lives) almost 4 days in advance and they gave us 2 options to pick from for the reservation (6:30pm and 9:00pm). We opted for 9:00pm, got there 10 minutes early and were asked to wait at the bar for our table to be set. We were at the bar until 10:00pm and when finally called to sit, we ended up at the casual tables. All the management had to say was that they had 3 tented-tables and they served them on a first come first serve. I had visitors from Europe to join us for our celebrations and it was beyond the embarrasment, let alone ruin the the mood for my wife and myself, since we had thought that we had done everything to make the evening special. I wonder why people make reservations or why the management accepts reservations. If had been told to of the policy, We would have been there at 5:00pm when the restuarant opened for dinner. Thank you Tangerino for ruining our moment, and just a note for the management, but a glass of champagne is never enough to replace a lost moment (some people have that planned for anyways).

Pros: the food is unquestionably good

Cons: the management is a mess, un-forgivable

Fun atmosphere

I took my friend here for her birthday (they can accommodate large groups - a plus) and they put us in this tented table and at one point the belly dancer came by. It was just a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed their food. Our server wasn't anything special, but did a good job nonetheless. And there's a hookah lounge next door, but they don't take reservations.

Pros: Belly dancers, great decor

Cons: The service isn't anything special

Tangierino Strangely Lacking

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I had heard SO much about it, and good Moroccan in a funky atmosphere is not exactly easy to find in Boston. But our experience last night left our party strangely dissatisfied and wondering what was up with this place. Valet service was friendly and attentive, but it all left off at the door. Although we had informed the restaurant we were bringing a birthday cake, there was a lot of confusion at the front desk -- the hostess was flustered and clearly put out that we asked them to deal with a cake. Not sure what the big deal was. Other restaurants do it all the time -- much more graciously and without the exorbitant $3 per slice cutting charge. After placing our cocktail order, we had an inexcusably long wait before receiving our drinks. The menu itself is well-varied and provided something for everyone. An appetizer of Sahara Shrimp was tasty enough but failed to deliver on the proffered spice. My husband ordered the Couscous Royal, which he enjoyed but thought the couscous itself was a bit dry. A half hour later, when we were nearly finished, the waiter arrived with the sauce for the couscous. We remarked that it was a bit too late, but he offered no real apology. l had the Crisp Lemon Chicken Tagine, which was delicious, but not crisp. Oddly, it comes with pommes frites, which were only average, and seemed ill-suited to the dish. But the strangest part of the evening came immediately after the cake, when the manager appeared, bill in hand, and said "I understand that you would like the bill now." In fact, we had not requested it. We did ask to move on to the hookah bar, but were abruptly informed it was completely full for the evening. The waiter did not offer tea or coffee, but brought the bill again, and at that point we decided just to leave. It all felt uncomfortable and disappointing. The atmosphere is great and the food is fine, but they need to up their overall game. In this economy, there is no excuse.
