The East Coast restaurant chain, known for decadent sundaes, is in financial trouble, closing 23 locations and making up for a 25 percent drop in locations in 2018. The regional fast food chain, named after Roy Rogers, also known as the "King of the Cowboys" after his role in western movies, has been struggling to keep its doors open for years. In February 2019, the company closed five restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio, and only 48 operate in the United States, according to the National Restaurant Association (NRA). The chain used to have more than 600 locations and has a total of 1,000 restaurants in the US and Canada as well as in Europe and Asia.

Regional restaurant chains have taken a hit in recent years because they typically have higher operating costs than their larger competitors. According to Restaurant Business, the Dallas, Texas-based pizza chain has shrunk from around 100 locations in 2017 to just 58 locations by the end of 2019.

Unfortunately, the chain has suffered a significant drop in pedestrian traffic over the past decade and many of its sites have closed. Several well-known restaurant chains struggled to survive during the pandemic, with outstanding debts and other financial setbacks. Pie Five Pizza Co. might not have survived the pandemic without the shutdown. The chain was already suffering financial hardship at the time, and the foreclosure led to even more complications.

On the company's Facebook page, some workers were preparing 1,600 sandwiches to feed students in a Pennsylvania school district. The Roy Rogers menu featured a variety of Western themes, including chicken wings, hamburgers, hot dogs and burgers.
